Cassper Nyovest Speaks On Diminished Support For Black African Success Stories
On the 23rd of February 2021, American Rapper and Businessman Jay Z made the official announcement of his partnership with Moet Hennessy. Among the scores of fans and followers alike that descended on Twitter in mass droves to offer heartfelt congratulations, Cassper Nyovest was on hand to express his own admiration of the impressive business endeavour.
An empassioned Twitter user took it upon themselves to question Nyovest’s decision to express so much support to an international star when he has more than adequate support in the country he hails from. The unnamed tweep went on to point out that South Africans always rush to praise the international celebrities but never utter a word when one of our own accomplishes anything of significance.
Cassper had the following to say in response:
It would seem Cassper was referring to the subconscious habit we often have to instinctually react negatively to someone else’s accomplishment as though it somehow it sheds light on our own failures or the opportunities we’ve yet to take advantage of despite knowing that we can.
In his congratulatory tweet, Cassper Nyovest described Jay Z’s accomplishment as “Black Excellence”, an achievement not only to be admired for the sake of its existence, but for it’s potential to inspire black people. To be admired for it’s existence as a symbol to unite black people to rise out of our mental shackles under a single mindset of Black excellence.
