SA Female Celebs Who Have Been Victims Of Domestic Abuse

Here’s an incomplete, depressingly long list of South African female celebrities who have been victims of domestic abuse and their assault stories.

Ntando Duma

In 2016, when Ntando Duma accused her baby daddy Junior De Rocka of being a deadbeat dad, the Tv personality went into details about how the Dj was mistreating her in the past- from cheating on her, to even physically assaulting her after finding him in bed with another woman.

Busisiwe ‘Cici’ Twala

In 2017, Cici sent shockwaves throughout Mzansi when she revealed injuries she sustained in an altercation with former beau Arthur Mafokate. 

According to media reports, Mafokate allegedly dragged Cici into the street during a heated argument. 

Khanyi Mbau

Mbau, who’s known for her glamorous life, has spoken out on her experience with domestic abuse, revealing that her ex-husband, Mandla Mthembu, used to abuse her.

Bonang Matheba

Before dating rapper AKA, Matheba was in a relationship with 5FM DJ Themba Nkosi, better known as Euphonik, and during the relationship, allegations of domestic abuse came to light after Matheba opened a case of assault against him. 

He appeared in court a few times but Matheba since withdrew the charges against him. 

Latoya Makhene

Letoya Makhene opened up about her domestic abuse experience. The Generations: The Legacy actress, in an interview, opened up about her divorce from her husband of nine years, Privilege Mangezi and the abuse she endured during the marriage. 

Kelly Khumalo

Singer Kelly Khumalo shared pictures of her injured face in 2011, and accused her ex Molemo ‘Jub Jub’ Maarohanye of beating her up. Kelly opened up the abuse again in 2016, describing Jub Jub as being “very abusive” during an interview on MTV Base’s Behind the Music. He denied the claims.

Babes Wodumo

Earlier this year, a video in which singer and dancer Babes Wodumo is allegedly being beaten by her partner Mampintsha, went viral on social media and had South Africans outraged.

Mshoza

Kwaito star Mshoza recalled the night “all hell broke loose” when her ex beat her up in a fit of jealous rage. “He is this strong, tall and huge person, and I’m tiny. I really thought he was going to kill me. I begged him to stop. I begged for forgiveness,” she told Drum magazine last year.

Nonhle Ndaba

Former Diski Divas star Nonhle Ndala revealed in 2015 that she survived an abusive relationship. She accused her former husband of being possessive, jealous, and physically abusing her.

Criselda Kananda

Earlier this year, Radio host and social activist Criselda Dudumashe revealed she has suffered physical abuse at the hands of her husband, Prince Siyolo Dudumashe.
